Elizabeth Bear

Sarah Bear Elizabeth Wishnevsky (född 22 september 1971) är en amerikansk författarinna. Under pseudonymen Elizabeth Bear skriver hon främst i genren science fiction, och vann 2005 John W. Campbell Award för Best New Writer, 2008 Hugo Award för Best Short Story för "Tideline," och 2009 Hugo Award för novellen "Shoggoths In Bloom.

Hon är född i Hartford, Connecticut, hennes meritförteckning innehåller så vitt skilda tidigare arbetsuppgifter som "professionell inom medieindustrin", stallmedhjälpare, mjukisreporter, ansvarig för mikrobiologihandböcker på ett stort innerstadssjukhus, sättare och layoutare, trafficansvarig för ett import/exportföretag och "flickan som gör donuts på The Whole Donut klockan tre på morgonen".

Tills nyligen levde hon i Las Vegas, Nevada, där novellerna One-Eyed Jack and the Suicide King, Follow Me Light och This Tragic Glass utspelade sig, men hon återvände till Connecticut i januari 2006.

Hennes första roman Hammered publicerades i januari 2005 och följdes av Scardown i juli och Worldwired i november samma år. Trilogin berättar om Canadian Master Warrant Officer Jenny Casey, som också är huvudperson i novellen Gone Flowers. Hammered vann Locus Award för Best First Novel under 2006.

The Chains That You Refuse, en samling av hennes noveller, publicerades i maj 2006 av Night Shade Books. Blood and Iron, den första boken i fantasyserien "The Promethean Age", utkom den 27 juni 2006. Hon är också medförfattare till den pågående kombinerade webbside- och tv-serien Shadow Unit.

År 2008 donerade hon sitt arkiv till institutionen för sällsynta böcker och specialsamlingar på Northern Illinois University.
